The bond market started to price the AI buildout
Week 42 · 2026-10-12 (Mon) – 2026-10-16 (Fri) · 5 reads from 1,653 items
This week, the bond market priced the AI buildout before the stock market did. Credit, not revenue, now sets the pace.

Top reads
1. The bond market now prices AI infrastructure as credit risk
CoreWeave stock fell 16% on October 14. Its bonds yielded close to 15%. CoreWeave needs debt near 6% for its model to work. Default insurance priced a more than 60% chance of insolvency within five years. Firmus withdrew a $30B IPO on $59M of revenue.
Why it matters — I think the stock market has not yet accepted what the bond market now says. The weakest borrowers set the price of capital for the whole chain.

2. Anthropic grew 45% and its IPO valuation fell
Anthropic told prospective IPO investors that Q3 revenue was $16.8B. Growth was 45% over Q2. Growth from Q1 to Q2 was about 100%. The FT reported that 5–7% of revenue came from distillation. Some investors now discuss a $1.5T valuation instead of $2T.
Why it matters — Anthropic's demand forecast supports the neocloud debt in #1. I think slower growth at the top of the chain moves directly into the credit spread at the bottom.

3. JPMorgan blocked outside agents; agents now recommend Mercury
Jamie Dimon said outside AI agents, such as Meta's Muse, cannot log in to Chase or move money. The block protects $2.7T of average deposits. Chase Savings pays 0.01%. Mercury lets agents connect through a hosted MCP server. AI assistants recommend Mercury over Chase by more than five to one.
Why it matters — I think a bank can block an agent from the account. The bank cannot block the agent from the customer's next decision.

4. One CPI print and one Chinese DRAM maker cut Korea by 7%
US September CPI rose 3.7%, above the 3.6% estimate. On October 15, the KOSPI opened down 6% and closed down more than 7%. A circuit breaker stopped trading for 20 minutes. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix fell more than 9%. Investors cited excess DRAM supply from China's CXMT.
Why it matters — Citi says CXMT has a limited effect before 2028. I think the market sold the memory thesis on one data point. One data point does not prove a cycle.

5. Stablecoin rails grew; stablecoin supply did not
Visa Direct moved USDC prefunding into commercial production. The EBA named USDC the EU's first "significant" e-money token. Coinbase will power stablecoin-backed cards for Marqeta customers. In the same week, Standard Chartered moved its $2T stablecoin forecast from 2028 to 2030. Supply growth stalled this year.
Why it matters — Institutions build the rails first. I think the volume on the rails has not followed yet, and distribution now leads demand.

Thesis updates
See the Thesis Ledger for the cumulative state. This week's moves:
Confirmed — The AI buildout is a credit trade
CoreWeave bonds approached 15%. Default insurance priced more than 60% insolvency odds in five years. Firmus withdrew its IPO. Ramp data show enterprise token spend flat for two months. Position: credit is the cleaner expression; avoid neocloud equity until spreads stabilize.
Weakened — Memory stopped being a cycle
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix fell more than 9% in one session on CXMT supply fears. The market still prices memory as a cycle. Citi says the CXMT effect stays limited before 2028. Position: no new position until a second supplier reports long-term contract depth.
Weakened · incumbent leg — Platform Is Trust
The thesis says accumulated trust is the moat. JPMorgan has the largest trust base in US banking. AI assistants still recommend Mercury over Chase five to one. The agent chose the open platform, not the trusted one. Position: prefer platforms that admit agents; reduce weight on closed incumbents.
Confirmed — The Ledger
BNY and Citadel Securities completed a tokenized Treasury repo on a major triparty platform. Morgan Stanley expects to support tokenized equities in Q1 2027. DRW and Marex traded a swap on a tokenized index. Position: unchanged; the fee-pool question stays open.
Reinforced · via the card network — Where Cards Can't Reach
Visa Direct put USDC prefunding into production. Prefunding is treasury work that cards never did. Standard Chartered delayed its $2T forecast to 2030, so volume lags the rails. Position: long prefunding and settlement categories; do not underwrite supply growth.
